Supporting Small Businesses

One of the best things to come out of lockdown is seeing people come together in so many ways, including the growing support for small businesses on social media. I have loved the promotion on Instagram to support places that need our support now more than ever so I thought I would talk about some of my favourites, all based in the UK.

Saturday by Megan Ellaby

Megan Ellaby is a Mancunian blogger with the coolest style. I have been following her on Instagram for quite a few years now (if you don’t already, I’d recommend giving her a follow) and have become a massive fan of everything she does, from fashion to hair to interior decorating. So you can imagine my excitement when she started her own fashion line, ‘Saturday by Megan Ellaby’, a while back. The line consists of the funkiest knitted jumpers and t-shirts, all made to last. I have two pieces already (which can be spotted regularly on my Instagram) and they are honestly two of my favourite items in my wardrobe; I can’t wait to see what she brings out next!

My two purchases from the brand.

Katie Loxton

Katie Loxton is a brand I have loved for a long time. The bags come in an endless amount of colours, each with a little message on it; my sister, my mum and I actually own multiple styles and colours so we are definitely fans. The smaller ones are perfect travel pouches for when we can go abroad again and they also make great gifts; the Katie Loxton website are currently selling a lot of them in gift boxes with a selection of other items such as candles and scarves. They also sell some other very pretty accessories such as purses, sunglasses and handbags. A lot of their items can be found at your local boutiques now open for business as well as online; Pretty Little Things Boutique in East Kilbride is where I have bought them in the past, including gift wrapping and a gift bag.

Luella Grey London

This brand is very new on my radar but I already love them. After the girls contacted me on Instagram, I spent quite a while browsing all of the bags they have to offer on their website and had to fight the temptation to buy everything. It is run by two women with impeccable taste and an amazing philosophy; they only create a small amount of each bag to avoid waste and produce every item ethically, with sustainability in mind. I ended up purchasing the gorgeous ‘Tabitha’ bag; it’s perfect for a day in the city when this is all over.

One of their many GORGEOUS bags which I chose to purchase during lockdown.

Chaya Rose Jewellery

When it comes to jewellery, I am a massive fan of gold and to be honest anything that looks like it belonged in my Grandma’s jewellery box. Maybe that’s not selling it to you. Like every other brand on here, I discovered Chaya Rose Jewellery on Instagram and quickly purchased these triple hoop earrings; for me they’re perfectly casual while also adding a little bit of style to the simplest outfits. They have so many pretty items, it was hard for me to pick one thing( a recurring theme of indecisiveness), so I would definitely recommend having a look for yourself!

These are the triple hoop earrings I got recently- I have been wearing them constantly!

Mikaela Lyons Jewellery

If you are looking for the perfect necklace for a vintage lover then this is the place; it’s not cheap but the pieces are all so gorgeous and unique, I am sure it would make for a very special gift. Everything is handmade ethically in Birmingham, promoting longevity over fast fashion so what’s not to love?

Spring Time In Brooklyn

A girl can dream. These dresses are quite expensive but I love to admire them in the photos. Each dress is hand made by a woman in Brooklyn and they are simply devine. There is one dress called ‘Le Stephanie’ and another called ‘The Natalie’ (my sister’s name) which I am in love with. Definitely not an impulse buy since they’re $$$ but if you’re searching for the dreamiest dresses then you should definitely have a look, I’m saving up to buy mine!

And to finish off, if it’s face masks you’re looking for, Chimes and Pretty Little Things are both local boutiques which have some lovely choices at the moment! I also love the funky prints Georgina Takyi’s face masks have. You can scroll through them on her Instagram @facemasksbygp.

Hopefully this has inspired you to widen your gaze a little to all the amazing small brands there are out there! I’m on the lookout for more to add to the list!

Hello! My name is Stephanie Elizabeth, I am a student/ writer/ fashion lover from Scotland . From a young age, fashion has been an immensely important aspect of my life, and in the past few years this love has grown from my discovery of Hollywood legends such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Diane Keaton and many more. Through this admiration, I was able to appreciate the many eras of fashion and the unique interpretations of style which keep it interesting and ever changing; it is the individual takes which I love the most, as it is completely expressive and different for every one of us. So, I am excited for this next chapter of my life to see how my own style( and life) evolves during university, lots of travelling( I hope) and beyond.
